Varicose Vein Treatment

Varicose veins affect as many as 1 in 4 Americans, making it an incredibly common condition. In most cases, these veins are harmless and only affect the appearance of the skin. Alta Vista Dermatology offers varicose vein treatment to residents of Denver and Highlands Ranch, Colorado, who are looking to find an effective solution to varicose veins.

What Are Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins are large veins that are visible from the skin’s surface, generally appearing on the legs and feet. This happens when blood is not flowing correctly and it collects in the veins, causing them to expand. Although this condition is usually harmless, it can become a cosmetic concern that leads patients to pursue treatment. If you are experiencing pain or swelling as a result of your varicose veins, you may also choose to pursue treatment to find relief.

What Causes Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins can affect anyone, although they are seen more often in women and people over the age of 40. Varicose veins form when blood accumulates in the veins, causing them to be enlarged and swollen. These most often appear in the legs and feet because they are the farthest from the heart, making it difficult to pump blood all the way back.

How Are Varicose Veins Treated?

At Alta Vista Dermatology, we use sclerotherapy for the treatment of varicose veins. Sclerotherapy is a dedicated vein treatment that eliminates the appearance of unsightly varicose veins. This is done using a fine needle to inject solutions such as Sotradecol or Asclera into the blood vessel. The solution causes the lining to swell and stick together as well as the blood to clot, making the blood vessel fade away. This is a relatively quick procedure that is easily performed and requires no downtime after treatment, allowing patients to return to work and other activities immediately following their appointment.

We will tailor a treatment plan to meet your needs, which will include the number of sessions required to achieve optimal results. The number of treatment sessions varies from one to several. The procedure may be ideal during a lunch break because it may only take a few minutes to a half hour depending on the number of veins treated. You can count on the veins disappearing about four to six weeks after initial treatment, with a success rate of over 90 percent.
